Why Kickboxing?

Kickboxing is a sport that combines elements of martial arts and boxing, typically muay thai and karate. It is known for its fast-paced, high-energy action, and is a popular form of fitness and competition around the world.

One of the most important aspects of kickboxing is having good technique. Good technique will allow a kickboxer to strike efficiently, effectively defend themselves and reduce the risk of injury.

Proper striking technique involves using the right body mechanics to generate power. This includes using; hips to generate force, chin tucked and hands up to defend and maintaining proper footwork to maintain balance and position.

Proper kicking technique is also crucial in kickboxing. This involves using the hips and core muscles to generate power, keeping the knee bent before extending it for the kick and keeping the non-kicking leg stable to maintain balance.  Good defence technique is also essential for kickboxers. This includes slipping and dodging punches, blocking kicks, and using footwork to evade strikes.

In addition to the physical aspects of technique, good mental technique is also important. This includes being able to stay focused and composed under pressure, having good ring awareness, and the ability to adapt to different fighting styles.

As well as the physical benefits, kickboxing has also proven to have mental benefits, such reduced stress and depression, an increase in self-esteem, while also providing a challenging physical workout.

In summary, kickboxing is an exciting and dynamic sport that requires good technique to be performed efficiently and safely. Proper instruction and consistent training are essential for developing and honing the physical and mental techniques needed to excel in the sport.
